COMPANY HISTORY

In 1986, I opened HomeMaid Cleaning Service.

I was 22 years old, mother of three, separated, uneducated and broke.

As a child, one of my mother's sisters, used to pick me up on Saturday mornings and take me to her home where she paid me $25 to do her laundry and her ironing. As I got older, every Saturday dissipated but she still pay me to then do her housecleaning as well.

And I did it well. I began to perfect it after I was on my own. So with no money, little bit of faith, and what I thought would be a good business idea, I put an advertisement in the local newspaper, and within three days of running, I already had an entire week booked for services.

I did this work in the Charleston area for 26 years. I expanded in 1988 to Augusta Georgia and from there, during a 6 year span, I went to 32 cities in 4 states, cleaning homes.

I learned a great deal about business & corporate law, marketing & advertising and even franchise law.

Today, it is 31 years later, and although I had momentarily stopped working to attend college, I have been able and blessed to have a skill that I can pick back up. I did a number of other jobs in between here and there. All listed on my resume. But housekeeping for private homeowners is something that I take great pride in doing.

I was able to develop my own unique way of cleaning, and used only a small variety brand of products that I use to clean and beautify while I work. Through the years, I have been educated in many areas that are associated with a home and can detect things such as present and/or prior termite damage.

I learned how to paint and design. Even errands became a great part of the packages that I found my customers wanting. I added carpet cleaning and apartment cleaning and even offices.

In September of 2001, when the terrorist’s attacks bombarded The World Trade Centers, business changed. People were not calling anymore. Things began to change dramatically. I found that once it started to slow down, employment elsewhere did to.

So, after I had remarried and the children had grown, I opened and sold artwork, antiques, and little mementos for extra income. I travelled throughout the SouthEast, and then decided it was time to go to college. I had been doing day labor on construction sites and knew that I wanted to learn how to design homes and as an architect did.

I began Trident Technical College in 2008 for the second time in the Civil Engineering Program. I was certified twice in 2009 as an Architectural and Mechanical Drafter specializing in AutoCAD.

I found that while I was at TTC, I earned three minors in Art History, History and Sociology. I wanted to further my academic career. In the Fall of 2012, I had been enrolled at the College of Charleston Urban Planning and Historic Preservation Baccalaureate Degree Programs. The College validated my time spent at TTC and gave me class standing of Junior.

It was time to go back to work though. I had a chance to reflect upon many of the wonderful opportunities that I feel the Lord gave me, and combine them all to further what was once a small company, into a different direction, with all of the same services I first provided and now, even more.

The children have all grown up and now have families and lives of their own. So now I can totally devote all of my time to both my business and more education.

Maid Of Charleston is the compilation of my 31 years of being associated and experienced in the industry.

I look forward to talking with every person that calls for information and for bookings.

God Bless,

Lisa
